As the New Year approaches, many of us are tempted to compile a list of resolutions, vowing to transform ourselves into the ideal version of who we aspire to be. However, as the years pass, this process of setting goals/rigid resolutions that end up being more of a pressure than motivation, is holding less and less appeal for me and I am much more interested in how I hope to FEEL next year.
So, if that is a perspective shift that you are down with too, here are some ideas for you to think about………..
?Cultivating Positive Emotions
Rather than fixating on accomplishments or external achievements, let’s turn out attention inward and reflect on the emotions we want to experience throughout the year. Do you yearn for more joy, peace or fulfillment? By identifying these core emotions, we can shape our actions and decisions to align with what truly brings us happiness.
?Mindful Reflection:
Take a moment to reflect on the past year. What moments brought you genuine contentment? What experiences left you feeling fulfilled? By acknowledging these moments, you can discern patterns and identify the factors contributing to your well-being. Use this insight as a compass to guide your intentions for the coming year.
?Setting Emotional Intentions:
Rather than setting specific, rigid goals, set intentions hat capture the essence of how you want to feel. Let these intentions guide your choices, steering you toward experiences that align with your desired emotions.
?Mind-Body Connection:
Recognise the intricate connection between your mental and physical well-being. Engage in activities that contribute to your desired emotional state. Whether it’s practicing mindfulness, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, or pursuing hobbies that bring you hoy, the mind-body connection plays a pivotal role in how we feel on a day to day basis.
?Flexibility and Self Compassion:
Life is unpredictable and unforeseen challenges may arise. But can you treat yourself kindly as you navigate the twists and turns of the year? Rather than viewing setbacks as failures, choose to see them as opportunities for growth and learning.
2024 – Calling for internal fulfilment over external expectations.
